No one likes doing housework. In India, even though we’re lucky to find good-natured, reliable domestic help compared to Western countries, it’s still good to know how to tackle daily cleaning tasks independently. We’ve compiled a list of home cleaning tips and tricks that will help you keep your house spick and span. Here they are:
Fill your dishwasher with more than just dishes
You will be surprised by how much more you can clean in a dishwasher apart from just dishes. Plastic toys, soap dishes, plastic hairbrushes, keys, sponges, tools and more are all dishwasher cleanable without incurring damage of any kind. Walk around your home and gather stuff that usually never gets cleaned. Run them all in the dishwasher literally by the plate load.
Sprinkle and vacuum
Ever walk around trying to figure how to get rid of that troublesome odor? We have a solution for you. Just sprinkle some baking soda onto carpeting, upholstered furniture, and even your mattress, and let it work its de-stinking magic for about 15 minutes. Then, quickly vacuum it away for an instantly fresher space.
Take the lint roller for a walk
Portable, versatile, and a closet staple, this device is the master at lifting dirt, crumbs, and dust from all those spots that never get the attention they deserve. Run it over a lampshade, the bottom of your purse, stuffed animals, and other hard-to-reach spotsto spiff them up and get them gleaming again.
Pick up pet hair quickly
We all love our pets but pet hair can become overwhelming if ignored. A pair of damp rubber dish gloves is all you need to get all that fur off your favorite pillow or armchair.
Banish dust from baseboards
What your hands don’t reach, your feet can clean. You can tackle dingy spots without stooping. Lightly spray an old sock with some cleaning solution and run your foot over the baseboards to clean dust simply and effectively.
Clean those gadgets
There’s a chance your cell phone harbors more germs than your toilet seat. And what are the odds that it is not cleaned as often as it should be?Run some alcoholic wipes over the surfaces of your often-handled electronics like cell phones, laptops, tablets and even the TV remote.
Wipe down your purse
It’s absolutely incredible how we tend to ignore cleaning some things we use daily, like purses. About half of all women’s bags have fecal bacteria on them (not a pleasant thought), so give it a swipe with a disinfectant wipe.
Getting rid of that smell
Kitchen smells can get absolutely horrific to be around. If you detect a stink in the kitchen you cannot stand, just try running a couple of lemon rinds through your garbage disposal and follow it up with cold water. This purges the drain line while getting rid of any nasty odors.
Clear dust from ceiling fans
Your fan’s bound to throw around dust when you turn it on if it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. An old pillowcase makes quick and tidy work of making your fan blades sparkle again.
For goodness sake, just toss that pile of catalogs
Not everything in your house needs to actually be there. There are some things you tend to hoard, and once in a while its important to take the cold, ruthless decision to throw those dust collecting things out. Recycle that stack of magazines/papers/catalogs cluttering your nightstand, and feel the lightness of free space in seconds.
We hope these tips help you beautify your home! Don’t procrastinate and use these simple tips to keep your home clean.
